Pastor suggests child abuse as cure for the gay

Pastor Sean Harris pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC, in a sermon last week, openly, blatantly, not only suggested, but virtually demanded that his congregation use violent child abuse to correct even a hint of gayness in their children.

What is it about the right wing theists these days that they seem to be ok with just plain taking the gloves off and espousing values that are so contradictory to normal, middle class America?

Aren't the polls that show a 19 point gap between Obama and Romney with women or the 40% support of Latinos for Romney enough to begin to ring some alarm bells with these people?  Can't they understand that their precious religious values are in large part simply directly in contradiction to the American democratic system?

What is it about religious objection to gays that can make a middle class pastor stand up in front of his congregation and advise child abuse?  What is it about those values that can allow that congregation to laugh?

Both Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell had the story, but I found the video here.  Listen and despair for modern American religious values.

Whatever bizarre philosophy or religion one chooses to follow, there is and can never be any justification for injuring a child in the name of discipline. Rather than go through my entire discussion again, here is a piece I recently posted on Alexandria: http://www.aleksandreia.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=53566&action=edit
